An Important Note Regarding the Future of ScoringTech.Net

When I first started this blog, it was essentially a portfolio and a way to demonstrate my knowledge/hopefully get my name out there to land an assistant gig when the pandemic ended. When my work took off however and I did land that gig, I didn't really know what to do with this or how to upkeep it or even what to do.

As you may know from last years update, the name ScoringTech.net I thought was cool because it rhymed, and it would be the only space on the internet really dedicated to the IT side of composer technology rather than DAWs, sample libraries, etc. I still have a focus on that stuff and am excited to softly say that the first 30% of the book will be published on this website in the coming weeks with the remainder having a goal of being complete by end of January (as I finish formatting and proof reading!). It is going to be a "digital multimedia book" hosted on this website with videos linked, pictures, and more. I think this is ultimately the best way to keep it up to date and be as comprehensive as possible. That said, I've also clearly expanded my scope and my focus. I've touched on cool VSTs, Business skills, creativity and artistry, social media, and so much more. ScoringTech.net has evolved beyond it's original intentions and even the simple way I designed it originally is starting to become a problem as this grows and grows.

It's not much, but I am averaging around 200 monthly readers, which is AWESOME and I hope to continue to grow this. In doing so,me things are going to have to change.

The first and most obvious is, at some point, I'm going to have to redesign this whole website from the ground up in order to be more organized. I should also consider some branding, as even our discord logo is just the default text for the name of the server and not a graphic. I also probably should post the small backlog of podcast interviews that I haven't shared on here yet too.

Secondly, this website is still going to function entirely as is - however instead of thinking like a "blog" I think it is safe to call this particular project a publisher. So these are no longer blog posts, they are articles.

I am going to be writing much more on this website now. The scope is going to increase greatly to try and become the definitive space on the internet for media composer. This, in conjunction with my youtube channel, should ideally serve as the ultimate source of information - both timeless and present.

I have ADHD and I tend to hyperfocus on things that interest me - music being one of them. And many times I will go down rabbit holes for weeks researching things or trying to find basic infromation about stuff that "should" exist online but is either super niche or not talked about often. I've identified at least 5 different areas, 3 of which I'd say I am near expert level in, that should be talked about so much more but aren't online at all. I'd like to change that, and hopefully create a place where other composers can find the information much easier than I did and be inspired as well.

Other things to be aware of:

  • The monthly game jams are now twice monthly, due to popular demand. Join the discord to stay up to date and be a part of the community. It's free - I just want people to have more opportunists to write, explore and connect with other composers

  • I am going to be doing live streams more in 2026. Currently have done none - so this should be an easy goal to hit. But I want to build things live like sample libraries or plugins, but also do fun composition challenges, webinars, and even game nights with this community on there too

  • Musical Experiments are coming: the intersection of technology and music has always been FASCINATING to me. I have plans in the works to make this website more "interactive" and "multi-media" in that sense soon. Can't say too much, but excited for when I can soon.

  • Multi-media based publishing: as mentioned earlier, this website is going to work in conjunction with my youtube channel. Not everything on there will be posted here, but the stuff that is most relevant will be and when possible, this site will serve as supplemental to the video with additional details or exercises

  • My store is launching - yes this website is still free and will not be paywalled, but I also need money in order to keep this going and will be selling some sample packs, books, sheet music, and other merch to hopefully help support myself.

  • On top of the store and my live streams, I'm going to be running contests. The contests will center around my live stream with the prize being from the store. I'm still developing the format but it's almost settled and ready for launch! Expect fun weekly challenges based around composition and maybe even a film or two to score directed by yours truly ;)

Collaborations

  • As this blog grows more and more, I would LOVE to contribute to other blogs and let other composers do the same here.

  • Sponsorships and brand deals: This blog is at a point where I think I can actually make progress on this and feel like I have something to offer rather than just begging and hoping.

Resources

  • I'd like to find a way to create a database here that people can contribute to. First off, I think sharing templates would be a MASSIVE thing worth sharing. Even if our samples and plugins cant be changed, either having a starting point or being able to poke around a template and see how some people accomplish certain things could be worth while.

  • I'd also like to start a database of direct contacts for customer support. Some of these developers are so anti-consumer and make it nearly impossible to get ahold of help (looking at you Steinberg) that I think this could be an incredible resource. Even if it is just a database of the direct link on their website where you go so you can avoid the endless chatbots and digging through FAQ's

I'm sure there are more, but as you can see I have big plans for this website - and that's not even to mention any of the work I do as a composer or sonic branding specialist! So yeah, we ("we" is "me") are going to be quite busy over the next few months but I see big potential and I want to achieve all of it.
